You Are Like An Olive Tree

The Olive Tree

Many times we live our lives without being mindful of who God says we are. Being oblivious to who we are impacts the way we handle situations, our responses to the different seasons of our lives and causes us to limit our capacity. You are reading this as a reminder that you were meant to be like an “Olive Tree flourishing in the house of God (Ps. 52:8).”

Having thought about this verse I was impelled to put more thought into the traits of the Olive Tree. This is what I discovered:

Longevity- Olive trees can live for thousands of years. We too will continue to live once we acknowledge Jesus as our Lord and Saviour as this guarantees eternal life. John 3:15 “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
Prolific- Olive trees start bearing fruit at five years of age. Like the Olive Tree, we too can bear good fruit. Galatians 5:22 highlighted some fruit- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Many of which are lacking in the world today; Be the Olive Tree wherever you are!
Indestructible- The root system is so robust that it is capable of regenerating itself. You can have the capacity to regenerate regardless of what life or people have done to you. You will always bounce back once you remember you were meant to be an Olive Tree. Zec. 4:6 “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts.”
Generous- Mature olive trees produce over 400 pounds of olives annually. Like an Olive Tree, you are required to share or give of your resources no matter how insignificant you may think it is. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 "whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously… God loves a cheerful giver." In other words, give and you will receive.
Sacred- Olive is used in making olive oil which is used in many religious rites today. Know this, you too are to be sacred. Why? 2 Cor. 16-17 "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and YOU are that temple."
As you have read and reflected, know that regardless of your circumstance, your aim as of this moment is to be THAT Olive Tree flourishing in the house of God. The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turns his face toward you and gives you peace.

  5. Indestructible! I am happy that this character has nothing to do with the looks of the olive tree but the quality of its roots. This compels me to question "what the quality of my root is? Is it based solely in and on the promises of God? Thanks for sharing, very thought provoking.
