The importance of trusting God

Trust  God

We have come to the point where we downplay and blatantly ignore the importance of putting our trust in God. God has been so good to us, we cannot complain. Had it not been for him, many of us can testify that our existence would have already ended. Also, many of us can attest that the struggles- heartache, depression, ridicule and stress we overcame were as a result of our trust in God. Now that we have overcome, why don’t we put into practice what we learnt under the strenuous circumstance? Trust in God is one of the pillars on which we live a fulfilled life. We are living in a time where if we do not trust in the Lord our God, then our efforts will be in vain.

Why is trust in God still important?

1. There is a blessing attached to trusting in God: “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit, (Jer. 17:7-8).” In other words, you will prosper greatly, regardless of external conditions.

2. God directs our paths when we trust him: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Pr.3:5-6).” Whilst these verses are frequently memorized, we often forget its potency. Trust in God means going beyond what we know. It is total dependence on the God who created us in his omniscience. Since he knows all, it is only reasonable to allow him to guide us.

3. God makes us unshakeable when we trust him: “They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever (Ps.125:1).” When we put our trust in God, we have the strength to stand, the courage to continue fighting knowing that we do not stand alone. Trusting in God makes us more fortified-shame and disgrace is repelled and we live the way God wants us; total dependence on him.

It is for these reasons and more we ought to trust God. God wants us to look away from ourselves, our intelligence, our knowledge, our former modus operandi and trust him to be the God we read about in scripture.
