What YOU want vs What God wants
You vs God
Tradition has taught us that if we acquire a good education, nice cars, beautiful mansions, sophisticated jobs and wealth then we will live a good life. However, oftentimes, we obtain all these things but still, there is an emptiness within us, a void that seems as if it cannot be filled. The emptiness has led many to seek out other activities to compensate for their experiences-drinking, smoking, illicit sex and abuse of other illegal substances.
That 'void' can be filled! It is God's way of communicating to us that there is more to our existence than acquiring material things. There is much more to us than what meets the eyes. We were created in God's image for a purpose which far exceeds the mere accumulation of things. Do not misinterpret this, if God allows you to gain great wealth, by all means, enjoy it. A good education? Be grateful and use it to serve others to the best of your ability but never let it reach the stage where you begin to worship these things because then, it becomes your idol. 1 John 5:21 says "dear children, keep yourselves from idols" and this exhortation was given because of the dangers of falling into this habit. Jonah 2:8 reminded us that "those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them" hence the void we experience.
Have we ever stopped to wonder if what we want is what God wants for us?
Sometimes the things we have acquired or want to acquire is NOT in God's original plan for our lives and that is why many times people get stressed, suicidal and depressed. We get into jobs that we were never supposed to get into and as a result, we fail or get into irredeemable issues. We would have forced our way in even when everything around us would have indicated otherwise. Nevertheless, we push forward whether to fit into the status quo or to be accepted by friends or family. Additionally, when we have ignored God's design sometimes it results in forfeiting who we were destined to be.
It is never easy to identify or carry out what you were called to do but whatever your heart is drawn to, that is usually it. The task that brings you peace, joy and ultimate fulfillment usually leads you to your purpose. If this blogpost speaks to you, know it is not too late. STOP, THINK and TURN. Go and fulfill the purpose for which you were born. You are specially designed and only YOU can fulfill YOUR destiny.
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails-Proverbs 19:21
Another deep insight into the inner workings of Christianity. Many have missed their calling because what we want is not always what God plans for us.
