The battle is NOT yours, it is the Lord's
The battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s
In our lifetime we have been through many challenges, fought many battles, suffered countless defeats, cried volume of tears, pressed in a corner between a rock and a hard place, lied on, slandered, defamed, and persecuted but know that the battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s. We are often unsuccessful in our battles because we approach them with the wrong kinds of weapons. The Bible teaches us that the “weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds-2 Cor.10:4.”
Reasons we should allow God to fight for us
(Inspired by Psalm 35)
Some people seek our lives (Ps. 35:4,7)- Some hate us without a cause and sometimes we are unable to discern the true intent of their hearts (because of their close relationship with us in some cases). Only God can fight these battles and win. How many of us know that our graves were already dug? How many of us are aware that God has severed the nets that were hidden for our demise? If you are reading this and you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, now is the time.
There are people whose intentions are to frame us (Ps. 35:11,20)- It takes God to turn the tides and reveal the truth when our names have been dragged through the mud even without our knowledge of it. Ruthless witnesses testify against us and again, only God can deliver us if we fall into those schemes.
Some repay us evil for good (Ps. 35:12)- Many of us have dealt with the people in our environs with honesty, integrity, truth, love, and loyalty but these individuals are the very same who have intentions of destroying you regardless of your efforts to serve them in peace. Be knowledgeable that only God can fight this battle and win.
Some rejoice at our misfortune (Ps. 35:15-16)- Many cannot wait to see us fail, or for some mischance, so they can gather in their cliques and criticize or even assume what is happening in our lives from the outside. They tear us to pieces with their assumptions even if our struggles are a part of God's grand design to make us better. Only God can fight these battles and win.
The result when God fights for us
God will not fight for us unless we allow him to. There are times when he steps in without our permission because he sees that we are weak, gullible, short-sighted, stubborn, ignorant, and sometimes foolish (unwise) and we will interrupt His divine plan.
When God steps in:
- He will fight against those who fight against us (v.1)
- He will protect us by being our armour (vv.2-3)
- He will cause the plan of our enemies to be of none effect and disappoint them (v.26)
- He will cause ruin to overtake our enemies by surprise (v.8)
- He will cause shame, confusion, and disgrace to consume the enemies. (v.26)
Ultimately, instead of being depressed and worn out, we will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation when we allow God to fight our battles for us. Also, we will sing his praises in thanksgiving knowing he has won the victory for us. Ps. 37:1-2 says “fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.” Again, the battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s.
Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. - Ps. 35:1
